Bomb Snow 10 Year Anniversary Book Digital Detox

Isn’t it time we all had a digital detox? Bomb Snow magazine thinks so! They are celebrating 10 years of original content with a 10 year anniversary book featuring new and old content. A smorgasbord of awesome if you will. To reign in the new book, Bomb Snow hired me to shoot and edit a promotional piece to get the word out. With the help of Reid Morth and Strobot Studios, here it is, a digitally presented digital detox…

Glacial Profiling (Snowboarding Project 2014)

The winter season of 2013-2014 was one for the books… If you lived in Montana or a surrounding area. With the constant snowfall up north it was not surprising to see the southwest struggle, but I had no idea just how bad it got. With an approximate season snowfall of 17 inches at Bear Mountain, things were in really bad shape. I decided to get down there and document a bit of the drought. Thankfully, Bear mountain park staff was at the top of their game given the circumstances… they always are.

I set out to accentuate the differences in environment and riding style between the two distinctly different places. My short film “Glacial Profiling” will be dropping sometime in the next couple months. Enjoy some screenshots from the season and get excited for the movie…

Wild Trout Documentary Sizzle Reel (Update)

Its been a while since I last posted and its because Ive been in the process of completing a few projects. Wild Trout is a Documentary about Montana’s trials, tribulations, and ultimate success in creating a world class fishery by going against the norm of stocking rivers. Dick Vincent, revolutionary fisheries biologist changed the way Montana studied rivers in the 1960’s. Along his quest to maximize the prosperity of fisheries in Montana, He revolutionized the way we studied rivers, and along the way hypothesized that stocking rivers was actually killing native fish, all at a massive cost to taxpayers.

I was hired by John Byorth and Angus Productions to shoot interviews, B-roll, and ultimately edit the Sizzle reel to ensure investors that the project could be strong, had great merit, and could be executed on. I shot it on a Sony FS700 with Dan Armstrong of Strobot Studios on second camera with a 5D Mark iii. This project is sure to be a strong stepping stone to conversations among fisheries managers across the world on how to create and maintain an economically sound and environmentally friendly fishery by better management of habitat and then weening off the policy of stocking fish.

Below are some screen-grabs from the edit that is currently in the works…

Always: On The Rise Bakery

I present to you, On the Rise Bakery, a unique brand driven by its commitment to a core set of values. We shot this piece in one day on my Canon t2i with the help of a group individuals who believe in the same core values that On the Rise stands for. With the help of a solid crew as well as the help from several other local businesses, we were able to capture the essence of the brand in a critically small time constraint. In the edit bay I pulled together the piece with flow and specialized techniques such as color grading, voiceover effects, shot adjustment, and stabilization. Overall I would say this project was a big success for both myself and the client. OTR Color Correction 2

On The Rise Bakery Bozeman Promo Video (Color Grading)

Recently I directed and filmed a short promotional commercial piece for On The Rise Bakery in Bozeman Montana. They blew me away with the quality of their specialty breads in a way that food hasnt done for me in a long time. This project is currently being edited by a new friend of mine, John Robbins. In the meantime I thought it would be fun to color grade some of the clips to serve as a testament to the importance of quality post production work. Below are some screenshots of color graded and non color graded clips I pulled from the shoot. In general, my goal was to make the colors as warm and inviting as the bread tends to be. It was also really important for me to generate natural skin tones. If you have any questions about On The Rise Bakery, post production, color grading, or anything else film related, feel free to send me an email through my contact page. Enjoy!

Snowboarder Magazine Battle Of The Brands Arbor Collective (Update!)

Update! – The contest is over and we have officially won the “Snowboarder Magazine Battle Of The Brands” video contest.

I recently went to Superpark 17 to film the Snowboarder Magazine Battle Of the Brands Arbor Collective Entry. Last year we were runners up beating out brands like K2 and Volcom until ultimately being defeated by Capita Snowboards in the finals. The public vote were a testament to the work of the riders, Matt Devino, and myself. This year I believe we have a stronger edit and we just pushed through the first round of voting by defeating the superpowerhouse brand DC. Although I still am not allowed to embed the video until the contest is over, heres a link to check out the video…

Yellowstone Lunker Hunting (Coming Soon)

In an effort to branch out into new categories of filmmaking and story telling i will be releasing a new short documentary about a day floating the Yellowstone River with flyfishing experts Dan Armstrong, Shane Stalling, Benji Stone, and Craig Boyd. The day was a huge success that was highlighted by Shane’s biggest and most beautiful catch, a 25 inch trout. The short doc will be dropping on my site later this week. Where The Wild Went Is a series ive been producing on my own budget for release on major snowboard websites around the world.
